BUT – I know for a fact that in our modern, mass-produced-food and consumables world, it is not always that easy to source top-notch, organic or free-range foods … not to mention the fact that although these types of food are gaining popularity and becoming easier to find on our super-market shelves, they can still be a whole lot more expensive …

… so it's perfectly understandable that you may not be changing from your current food choices – they're familiar, easy to get and the cost is right for your pocket … right ..?

Cutting To The Chase:

So, failing the ability to consistently / daily source top quality “Super-Foods”, like:

• Kale

• ANY and ALL high quality, fresh green veg '

• Lean, free-range meats

• Free-range eggs

• High quality fresh fish

… what about some good quality natural an addition to your diet ..?

I personally use several different supplements – because I currently live in a country and an area where it's pretty difficult to get top quality (or often even 'low'-quality) “organic” and “free-range” foods, so I make up for it by adding supplements to my daily rule, which, strange as it may seem, are in fact a lot easier for me to source.

This means I still get all the necessary vitamins, minerals and essential nutrients that my body requires and I definitely recommend them to you.

Along with a few other things, I use a probiotic, CoQ 10 and an organic “Green” powder that contains Spirulina, Wheat Grass and at least 7 Sea Vegetables, among other things … I have to tell ya though, this “Green “powder tastes awful, but hey, it's reasonably priced, goes a long way and supplements what I should be getting veggie-wise – and I mix it with a whey-protein shake after my work-out so it does not taste quite so gross.

Man, the things we have to do for our good health ..!

Even with a diet full of variety and because of the way that the bulk of our modern day food is processed, unless you carefully item each food item you eat for vitamin and
mineral content, you just can not be sure that you're getting exactly what you need for proper physical and mental health and wellness.

This in turn means that all the vitamins, minerals and essential nutrients your body needs are pretty much lacking in some way or another, in the foods you're consuming ..!

You also need to realize that for your body to absorb some of the essential vitamins or nutrients, you'll actually need to consume others to effect proper absorption … an example of this would be vitamin E … this particular nutrient is best absorbed when it is taken with selenium and vitamin C.

OK that's getting a little technical now, but the basics are that most reputable / knowledgeable health professionals these days will recommend you take a supplement to ensure that you're meeting all your diet needs.

That brings us neatly to an important sub-topic:

Are natural supplements the better way to go, as opposed to synthetic ..?

Well, research shows that it's the vitamins and minerals inside the supplement that are important, not so much the amount of added fillers or substances meant to help you digest it or make it more palatable.

But on the either hand, other researchers believe that adding more unnatural substances to your body when you're taking the supplements to promote health is just foolish … and I personally agree with that sentiment – natural is natural is natural … right ..?

There are of course scientists who say that certain synthetic vitamins and minerals are more effective than their natural counterparts … hmm, maybe …?!?

A case in point would be the farmer in New Zealand who was near death as he had all sorts of health ailments, such as Leukemia, failing kidneys and then swine flu just to top it all off … damn … poor guy. .!

Well, this guy was given a daily dose of 100,000 mg of Vitamin C – the synthetic type, and he actually became better … if it had mattered if it was synthetic or natural – honestly, nobody can say, the question still remains unanswered …

… then again, it's proven that taking synthetic vitamin E is less effective than a natural supplement because the body can not efficiently digest and absorb the synthetic type.

Basically, you need to make your own choice, however, I do advise you to check the contents list on the supplements you purchase – you may be in for a nasty surprise with some of the standard off-the-shelf types.

Watch out for:

* The amount of unnatural ingredients in synthetic supplements

As we've discussed in the past, the more unnatural substances you put in your body, the more you risk the side effects that go along with them … Your liver has to work harder to remove the toxins, and some of them can seriously upset your digestive system.

Hey, I've checked vitamins only to find they contained sugar – and not just one type of sugar, but 2 or 3 types … that's just plain poison ..!

It may not seem so important – BUT – if you're diabetic or have any form of sugar issues, you may be unknowingly putting your body at even more risk.

* Supplementation Standardization

When the word “miracle” is used in relation to supplements, does this mean that supplements bring something out of the invisible, etheric realm and affect the body in a supernatural way not possible by human means? A miracle is defined as “an extraordinary event taken as a sign of the power of God”. While miracles do occur through prayer, when it comes to supplements, the word miracle may be what is used, but it is not a supernatural event. We use the word miracle simple because the English language is limited in differentiating terms. A person can love ice cream and also love his or her spouse or child. Is it the same kind of love?

So recognizing we are limited in the vocabulary we have to work with, yes, it may seem like a supplement can create a miracle, but it is actually a very natural event. The body needs certain macro and micro nutrients to live. A macro nutrient is one that is needed in large amounts. A micro nutrient is needed in small or trace amounts. Regardless, all are necessary for the proper functioning of the body. Beyond that, the body needs water.

The body is supposed to be around 70% water, though statistics vary. Thus, suppose someone was in the heat all day and did not have any water to drink. He would feel drained of energy. All of a sudden, what if this person were able to get a glass of lukewarm water and started to sip it. His strength would begin to recover. We may call it a “miraculous” recovery. Yet it would boil down to a physiological fact that when someone gets the fluid he needs in the body, the body will respond in a positive way.

Likewise, many people are deficient on one or more nutrients. So when people start taking supplements, and starting getting some of the trace, micro and macro nutrients that they have needed, it may seem “miraculous” the types of things that happen to their bodies and the improvement they see. Yet, it is the normal physiological response of the body absorbing and using a nutrient it needs. The “miraculous” becomes possible with good nutrition and correct supplementation.

Benefits of Essential Fatty Acids: Healthier Eyes, Joints and Heart

Essential fatty acids are natural, healthy fats the body can not make on its own – hence the term “essential”. These are called Omega 3 fats and Omega 6 fats. Omega 3 fats are things like fish, fish oil, olive oil, flax seed and oil, avocado and green vegetables. Recent research studies are finding these fats benefit the eyes, joints, heart, lungs, immunity and more.

Omega 6 fats include vegetable oils like safflower oil and corn oil, as well as mayonnaise, fried foods, dairy and beef. Many people eat more Omega 6 fats than Omega 3's and when the balance between the fats becomes imbalanced, many health problems can occur – particularly high cholesterol and high blood pressure.

One study of people with dry eyes was recently published in the journal “Cornea”. They were given a daily dose of the oils of fish and flax. At the end of the 90-day study, 70% of the participants with dry eyes had no symptoms and also had an increase in tear production and volume.

In the journal “Proceedings of the Nutrition Society,” researchers analyzed several controlled trials of using the oils from fish for arthritis. The trials showed a reduction in tender joint counts and a reduced use of anti-inflammatory drugs. An important research note was that anti-inflammatory drugs could adversely affect the heart. Fish is known to have a direct, positive effect on the heart.

A new report appearing in an issue of a biology journal has shown that the oils from fish enhance the activity of a certain kind of blood cell responsible for immunity in the body. Fish oil may actually aid immune responses that help clear out various diseases.

Another study was recently done at the Columbia University Medical Center in New York regarding the use of fish oil for the health of the heart and treaties. Researchers there found that a diet rich in fish oils can prevent the accumulation of fat in the aorta, the main artery leaving the heart. The beneficial actions of fish oil that block cholesterol buildup in the treaties were found even at very high fat intakes.

Scientists at the University of California in Los Angeles compared the oils from fish with soybean oil for the fat component that was used in feeding tubes for children with stomach failure. The study was titled “Six months of fish oil reverses liver disease in children with intestinal failure.” With the fish oil, nearly 80 percent of the patients experienced a reversal of their liver disease, while only 5 percent of the soybean oil patients saw a reversal. This is a strong statement on the benefits of fish oil for stomach and liver health.

What Is the Purpose of Chromium in Diets?

Chromium is one of the trace minerals that is very necessary to good health. It has been found that chromium works in conjunction with insulin. The purpose of insulin is to help maintain a steady blood sugar level in the body. When simple sugars are released in the blood stream at too high a level, insulin is released to help bring the sugar levels down. This is why people have sugar highs and lows. If they eat something with a lot of sugar, for example, a candy bar, sugar levels rise in the blood stream. Insulin is produced to help bring this rise down. The quantity produced may be so much that the blood sugar drops. Then the person feels fatigued and in need of another carbohydrate “fix”.

How much sugar is released into the bloodstream at any one time depends on the food ateen. For example, a candy bar will release more than a handful of nuts or an apple. Too much sugar contributor to heart disease, obesity, metabolic problems, and insulin resistance. Many people crave carbohydrates. This is because of dips in blood sugar. Regular chromium intake has been shown to reduce these cravings.

There are some natural sources that contain chromium, albeit in small amounts. These are broccoli, mushrooms, potatoes, grapes, barley, and pepper. Of course, organic and non-GMO are always best choices when picking foods from the grocery story. Otherwise, supplementation is another option. By using supplements, it is a way to bypass organic, non organic, GMO and non-GMO concerns. There are varied forms of chromium supplements. Some are tablets, and some are liquid.

Why do we need chromium, or any supplementation, for that matter? Our ancient creatures straight from the woods and land and did well. The reason is due to food processing. Often, nutrients are stripped out in the manufacturing process. Or, in the case of fruits and vegetables, due to shipping time and time spent in a grocery store bins, the nutrients are reduced from light and heat. So, even a person with the best of intentions and the best shopping list, can still come up short when it comes to nutrients. What Is Melatonin?

Melatonin is a hormone that is produced by the pineal gland. The pineal gland is a small organ located in the brain. The pineal secretes melatonin in anticipation of night and is partially responsible for keeping daily rhythms.

Melatonin is produced from the amino acid tryptophan and in addition to its effect in regulating circadian rhythms also acts as a potent antioxidant. Melatonin also plays a role in skin darkening and is suspected to play a role in melanoma.

As a dietary supplement, melatonin has been used for a variety of purposes. The most common purpose is to improve sleep or to combat jet lag. Taking melatonin a few hours before sleep can adjust the sleep cycle and promote more restful sleep and more alter wakefulness on rising. There is no doubt that it works and works well for this purpose.

Melatonin is also used to promote restful sleeping in the elderly (particularly those with dementia) and in children with autism. Anyone who has deal with an autistic child or an older person with dementia knows that getting to sleep and staying to sleep can be a major challenge. Again, for these purposes, melatonin seems to work fairly well and is non habit-forming or narcotic in nature.

There are some other potential effects of melatonin that may be of use as a dietary supplement. One potential use is in boosting the immune system. As we age, our immune system becomes less efficient. Melatonin has been shown to have some effect in boosting immune system function.

Another interesting effect of melatonin is its effect on growth hormone secretion. A recent article explored the effect of melatonin on growth hormone and found that a significant increase in growth hormone in response to a single dose of melatonin. Melatonin is generally believed to be safe though one should limit sun exposure since it can augment sun damage.

Oyster Extract – New Research on Boosting Testosterone

One thing is for certain in the performance enhancing supplement industry and that's the ongoing research done on elements. Manufacturers are consistently looking for ways to increase the effectiveness and purity of ingredients, often revising the extraction process in herbs. And of course there's an abundance of new finds and ingredients.

An interesting ingredient I'd like to discuss is oyster extract. I found out about this supplement a few years back when I started promoting a testosterone booster, which I'll get to toward the end here. At first glance, oyster extract does not sound fancy or sexy. And you may think that you can just go eat a bunch of oysters. But I made some interesting discoveries as I furthered my research.

Through history, oysters have carried the reputation for increasing sex drive in both men and women. There's an immediate effect of heightened senses and vigor when eating them. However, it may seem unrealistic to eat oystersdaily to capture the effects. And it's known that ingredients that increase natural testosterone levels should be taken daily, consistently. This is why there are oyster extract supplements. Another point is the excess water is removed during the extraction process.

The highlight of oyster extract is that it's high in zinc. As we know, zinc is known as a superpower nutrient for increasing testosterone as it's used for men's reproductive health. It also has a hefty serving of other vitamins, glycogen, and taurine. But as I've stated, it's often not just one element; it's a combination of several that make testosterone boosters, and supplements in general effective. An example is a test booster I came across a couple of years ago which contains oyster extract as well as zinc, magnesium, and vitamin B6 (the old school 'zma' formula, which has been around for decades and has provided the test of time ). These are the types of supplements to look for.

The take away is to do some further research on oyster extract. We live in the age of information and everything is available at our finger tips. Find a testosterone booster that contains an effective dose (I encourage you to look that up as well) and that also combines other similar ingredients.
